Where Does Your Mind Go When Things Don't Go Your Way?

Where does your mind go when things don’t go your way?

What happens when you thought life was going to go one way, and instead it feels like nothing is working out the way you pictured it?

Maybe you’re planning to launch a programme or product, and you’re overwhelmed with anxiety and fear that it won’t go well?

“ A simple feeling will arise, and instead of simply letting it be there, we panic. We begin to weave our thoughts into a story line, which gives rise to bigger emotions.” - Pema Chodron

Have you experienced this? A fleeting feeling that is as natural as breathing - doubt, fear, overwhelm, anxiety, and instead of allowing it to be, to be felt and to move… we create a story line.

Something like…

  • I'll never make money again

  • No one will ever want to work with me

  • I’ll never achieve the goals I set out to achieve in life

  • I’m going to feel this way forever…

And what was once just a little speck of doubt and overwhelm has become a much bigger mountain to climb to get back to balance within ourselves.

Internal balance is so important as an entrepreneur, and I heard someone say the other day that as Entrepreneurs, we need to be emotional athletes… and it could not be more true.

Being able to regain emotional balance, recover from setbacks, build resilience, faith, commitment, courage, all of this is based on our level of emotional endurance. Cultivating this is the only way to go the distance in business and life!

It is ALL won or lost with our mindset.

Myself, I have been in a luxurious bubble of calm, peace and joy for about 5 months… Obviously it’s fluctuated, but honestly, it’s been one of the most delicious experiences of my life. It came after a pretty hardcore period of very high levels of anxiety & overwhelm… so the contrast was pretty glorious.

Now though, I can feel myself shifting out of it slowly…

Low levels of fear and anxiety sneaking their way in.

Projecting into future possibilities…

Allowing myself to get overwhelmed, worrying about ‘what if’s’.

And to be honest, it’s scared me a little... I found myself starting to feel like things are ‘wrong’, that I shouldn't be feeling this way. I have been taking these feelings, and building a story line that really wasn’t serving me…

I saw a great meme the other day… it was something to the effect of: ‘We’re all messed up. Some of us are just honest about it.’  Ha, which honestly, I think is so awesome and true.

It can be so easy to feel like we are the only ones experiencing hardships when we live in a world that constantly tells us we should, have, be, do, create, more, more, more… and don’t for a second try to slow down, rest, or really tune into what you want and how you feel.

It can be easy to get stuck on a hamster wheel, and then end up in a life that isn't even our own, feeling trapped by keeping up with it.

That's why I love to keep things so real and honest, because we are all going through something. Sometimes we’re high, and other times we’re low… but the reality for me is that having a support system for when I am going through those low times (and one to share the highs with) is one of the most (if not the most) important things to me.

Having coaches, mentors, friends & resources to support me through these sticky periods is like a lifeline for me when I feel like I’m sinking. To be reminded that these times are normal, to have support to help me process things going on in my business and life.

So this post is for you if you’ve been going through something challenging, if you’ve been feeling some less than desirable emotions, if you’ve been processing heaviness…

Remember…
